At a time when firefighters and postmen are going door to door to sell their calendars, it seems that it is also time for the ministries to share theirs. And that of the Ministry of the Armed Forces has not escaped the extreme right. Damien Rieu, member of Reconquête, shared an image of this calendar, commenting “Promotion of the Islamic veil on a calendar of the Ministry of the Armed Forces”, on Twitter.

“How can the government which calls itself secular support this”, is indignant a surfer. But is this really the calendar of the Ministry of the Armed Forces? 20 minutes make the point.
FAKE OFF
After the controversy launched by the far-right activist, the Ministry of the Armed Forces denounced “false information”. The shared photograph would be “a photomontage”. But, with video support, the activist maintains his words: this calendar does exist since it was “distributed several weeks ago to the staff of the Commissioner of the Armies”, according to his sources.
But the ministry backtracked and deleted its message accusing Damien Rieu of spreading fake news. The explanation is published in a series of tweets: “after thorough verification, the calendar circulating on social networks is an initiative of a team from a department of the ministry”. The institution also emphasizes that it is not a question of “
under no circumstances” from the official calendar. And to add that “this project has never been validated by the hierarchy. Moreover, “since 2020, the Ministry of the Armed Forces has taken the decision to no longer produce a calendar in a sustainable development approach”.

An explanation is given all the same: “The idea behind this choice of photo aimed to promote the civilian personnel of local recruitment who contribute in an essential way to the missions of our armies on the ground. »
The woman in the photo ended up responding on Twitter to Damien Rieu. This is a Franco-Djiboutian accountant. She has been employed for many years by the French Forces deployed in Djibouti (FFDJ). “The veiled person in the photo is me. It was when I was awarded the bronze medal for years of service in the French army. And it is an honor for me to be selected for the 2023 calendar,” she wrote.
