Avoid burning smell… It is with this idea that Jérôme Viaud, president of the Urban Community of the Pays de Grasse, calls for the declaration of a state of natural disaster for the municipalities whose productions are affected by the drought.
And more specifically for the sector of perfumery, aromatic and medicinal plants.
“While efforts to adapt harvesting techniques and convert more and more land to organic farming should be rewarded, they risk being ruined.“, comments the mayor of the city of perfumes who hopes that these professionals obtain a “crop loss compensation“.
Thus, the elected representative is committed to continuing to bring the voice of those who work the land to Brussels: “As soon as Parliament returns, I will ask the European Union to bring the sector together so that European policies ensure these emblematic crops through a support plan.“
In addition to France, it is also Germany – the first producer of essential oils in the EU – or even Italy and Spain that are working in this field.
