TV audience: Republicans struggle to captivate LCI

The evening was to be the culmination of the internal campaign for the presidency of the Les Républicains party. This Monday evening, three candidates, Eric Chotti, Aurélien Prady and Bruno Retaio, took part in their only televised debate, which was broadcast live by the LCI. Difficult date how difficult it is to exist in the face of the 2022 World Cup broadcast at the same time on TF 1, where the United States took to the smooth face of Wales in front of 4 million sports fans.

For just over an hour and a half, the presentation of nuances within the right-wing party, which fell to 4.8% in the last presidential election, struggled to captivate viewers. Only 288,000 people watched the debate from 20:30 to 22:11, i.e. 1.2% of the market from the total audience. A total of 2.03 million citizens clicked on it for at least one minute.

During the entire discussion, the group channel TF 1 was only the third most popular news channel, just behind the end of the Pascal Proud program on CNews (1.4%) and the Ukraine section on BFMTV (1.3%). The Republicans scared away the young viewers. The average age of the participants in the evening: almost 65 years old, the audience share is only 0.3% of 25-49 year olds, the preferred target of the broadcasters. There is no rejuvenation for LR now.
