It’s still not… at least not yet. Emmanuel Macron on Friday calculated that returning caregivers not vaccinated against Covid-19 to the hospital should be a “scientifically sound” decision. “If scientists, doctors, educators tell us that it is scientifically desirable to reintegrate these educators, then the government should do it,” the head of state said during a trip to Dijon.
“This is not a political choice,” he added, while LFI MPs’ bill aimed at reintegrating unvaccinated medical workers could not be voted on Thursday in the Assembly, the opposition blames the presidential camp for slowing down the debate.
Opinion of HAS and the National Advisory Committee on Ethics
Many elected officials of the opposition, the LFI, as well as Les Républicains or Rassemblement national, are pleading for an end to the obligation to vaccinate caregivers (whose exact number is unknown, but small compared to the total workforce). One of their arguments concerns the shortage of staff in the hospital.
On Sunday, Health Minister François Braun indicated to RTL and LCI that he would make a decision when he received the opinions of the Higher Authority for Health (HAS) and the National Ethics Advisory Committee. Emmanuel Macron therefore says nothing more, even if he did not specify which scientific organizations he is talking about. The Health Risk Monitoring and Prediction Committee (Covars) may also be called upon to decide on this matter.
