New budget increase of 8% in 2022, announces Eric Dupond-Moretti

After the “historic” increase in 2021, the budget of the Ministry of Justice will increase for the second consecutive year by 8% in 2022, announced the Minister of Justice, Eric Dupond-Moretti, in a video posted on Facebook on Thursday.

“This is a new massive effort that will be made, after 607 million euros in 2021, the 2022 budget will increase, if the national representation so wishes, by 660 million, or another eight percent increase. I say it is unheard of, ”he said.

“Unheard of for 35 years”

The increase in the budget in 2021 had been described by the government as “historic” – “unheard of for 35 years,” Prime Minister Jean Castex said at the time. It has notably made it possible to finance additional recruitments and local justice, recalled Eric Dupond-Moretti in his video. “In 2022, we will have a budget of nearly 9 billion euros, or since my arrival an increase of 1.3 billion”, also declared the minister, appointed in July 2020.

In 2020, the Justice budget was 7.5 billion euros, up 4% compared to 2019. “Soon I will come back to you to tell you what we are going to do in 2022 with this public money”, he said at the end of the video. “We will further intensify, thanks to this budget, everything that you are entitled to expect from our judicial institution. And I say it, without boasting, we now have the means to achieve our ambition, ”he insisted.
