PS Congress: Olivier Faure claims victory again

PS probably couldn’t make it worse by choosing your boss. And the crisis is still far away. The first secretary of the outgoing Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, confirms on Saturday at the JDD that he was re-elected in an activist vote, an “irresponsible exit” according to his opponent Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, while the results-setting commission was still in process. “The result is crisp and clear. The time for voting is over,” proclaims Olivier Faure, adding: “I am grateful to the socialists for placing me in the most beautiful of functions, to lead and inspire the social and environmental justice party.”

A PS press release on Friday morning announced the victory of the outgoing Olivier Faure with 50.83% of the members’ votes, but the result was disputed by the mayor of Rouen, who cites numerous incidents that could skew the result. Since then, the party has plunged into crisis, with each side claiming victory while denouncing the opponents’ fraud.

“Irresponsible Exit”

Therefore, a verification committee was convened on Saturday from 13:00 to have both parties agree on the figures for the Congress of Marseille from 27 to 29 January. It was still going on around 10 pm. “No violations are allowed, but some fabricate doubts and arouse suspicion in order to spoil the result,” Olivier Faure criticizes.

Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol reacted on Twitter, criticizing the “irresponsible exit” “while our party offers a depressing spectacle and the review commission is in full force.” “I once again call for appeasement, transparency, respect for democracy and activists,” he added.

For Olivier Faure, his rallying left with Nupes, connected in May with the LFI, EELV and PCF, is in the majority: leftists and environmentalists. A curled-up PS, a PS that only talks to a PS, is a dead end.” He promises that “Nicolas Meyer-Rossignol will be connected with strategic directions, in particular European ones, since it was on this occasion that he expressed his greatest fears from the very beginning.”
