Striking refineries: to requisitions?

Industry Minister Roland Lescure hinted on Saturday that the government would announce requisitions if production stopped. “We showed in the fall that we know how to take on our responsibilities here, and we will take them,” in reference to the requisitions that were then made to unblock oil facilities during wage strikes, he told France Info. He added that such measures are “rolling out” with Parisian garbage collectors. According to the mayor’s office, 10,000 tons of garbage still accumulate on the sidewalks in the capital. It causes Saturday’s “stabilization” of the volume of garbage not collected in the capital.

The country’s largest refinery is on strike

The closure of the nation’s largest Normandy (TotalEnergies) refinery in Seine-Maritime began Friday night, Alexis Antonioli, manager of CGT, said. This operation will take several days and should not cause immediate fuel outages at gas stations across the country.

So far, the strikers have been content with blocking fuel supplies, but factories have continued to produce.
