Sarkozy on Ukraine’s “neutrality”: “Unacceptable”, according to Ukraine’s ambassador to France

This is frontal criticism. In an interview with the Ouest-France newspaper on August 22, Ukraine’s ambassador to France, Vadim Omelchenko, sees former French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s remarks as a communication operation coordinated by Russia.

In his latest book, Time of Struggle, a sequel to Time of Storms, Sarkozy believes that Ukraine should become a bridge between Russia and Europe. And he judges that the country of Vladimir Zelensky should be neutral. In response, the ambassador believes that “these statements, both in form and in substance, are unacceptable.” Before continuing: “I wouldn’t be surprised if the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine is interested in the comments made to see if they contain elements of a crime. The answer is in the form of a threat.

“Synchronized communication work”

In order to discredit the words of the former head of state on this topic, the ambassador also recalled the business ties that unite Russia and the former president of France, and criticized his activities in international politics: “The actions of the former president of the republic had consequences for Georgia to lose 30% of its territory.”

But Omelchenko stopped at a specific moment. “The suggestion that recognized international borders can be changed could backfire, and not just for Ukraine. It is curious to note that comments similar to those made by Nicolas Sarkozy were made elsewhere in Europe, he wonders. For us, this is a synchronized communication operation. Thus, the ambassador casts doubt on the statements of the ex-president, who, in his opinion, could have been influenced by the Russian maneuver behind the scenes. Final answer: “I see that Nicolas Sarkozy has not given up an active role on the French political scene. But perhaps the latter throws him. »
