Courtois sums up Mbappé’s great goal after a great play: “It’s his quality, his class”

Real Madrid suffered a serious blow on Tuesday night at the Parc des Princes by losing 1-0 at the hands of PSG, in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. The game was defined on the hour thanks to a goal from Kylian Mbappé, something that the merengue goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, regretted.

“In the end you play against a great team at home that has a lot of power offensively, the Champions League games are different from the League. We started quite well, but we couldn’t calm down, we suffered, we didn’t have possession and we couldn’t counterattack. We have lost a ball in a stupid way and the ball goes under me. It’s a shame because it was the end of the match but there’s still the second leg”said the Belgian in Movistar.

“Losing like this is very hard. It wasn’t a good game, going 0-0 to the Bernabéu is better, but it doesn’t change much either, we have to win to go through and hopefully with the support of the fans we can achieve it”he added.

Courtois stopped a penalty against Lionel Messi, whom he had studied. “If the goalkeeper is the best it’s a bit of a bad sign, but in a match like this you know you’re going to have work. I’ve done everything to keep a clean sheet and finishing like this is very hard. We have to keep going”, assured.

“I have studied Messi a lot, it was playing with him on the line and I decided on the left. It was good to keep us in the game but fitting in at the last second is tough. I have stopped Mbappé some, but the last action is his quality, his class and that is why he is one of the best in the world”, Courtois, with a contract at Real Madrid until mid-2026.

When is the return of Real Madrid vs. PSG?

The return match between Real Madrid and PSG is scheduled for Wednesday, March 9 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, at 3:00 pm (Peruvian time) and 9:00 am (Spanish time). ESPN will broadcast the match for Latin America.
