The Qatar 2022 Qualifiers in South America are about to end and there are several representatives who are fighting for a place in the World Cup. The Chilean team is one of the protagonists mentioned and this Monday received good news, ahead of the match they will have against Uruguay: they will be able to count on fans in the stands.
Through a statement, the National Association of Professional Football of Chile (ANFP) reported that the punishment imposed by the Disciplinary Committee, of playing behind closed doors on the last day of the qualifying process, was dismissed by the Appeals Committee of FIFA.
Let’s remember that the sanction in the first instance was due to the discriminatory behavior of the “Red” fans in the clash against Ecuador (date 14 of the Qualifiers). This time, the penalty for that fact will only be the reduction of the capacity in the sports venue: 75% of seats will be enabled.
After learning about the variation, Pablo Milad, president of the Chilean Football Federation, expressed his joy and praised the work of the legal representatives. “I want to congratulate the ANFP legal team, who did a very good job and were able to reverse the ruling to play with our fans.”, said the manager.
On the other hand, the spokesman revealed that the match against Uruguay still does not have a fixed venue and will only be defined in the coming days. “We evaluate the possibility of going to Santiago or to a province, depending on the state of the pitch”, sentenced Milad.
When is Chile vs. Uruguay?
The game Chile vs. Uruguay will be played next Tuesday, March 29, starting at 6:30 pm (Peruvian time) and 8:30 pm (Chilean and Uruguayan time). This will be a direct duel to go to the World Cup, if on date 17, the ‘Roja’ defeats a visit to Brazil and the ‘Charrúas’ lose at home to Peru. If other results occur, the Chilean team will arrive with fewer options to qualify.
