Copa Crema 2022 Percy ‘Trucha’ Rojas: this was the successful undergraduate tournament of Universitario

The University of Sports board has been working carefully on all aspects of the club, both in minors and in the highest category. This 2022, the club developed the renowned Copa Crema, the popular junior tournament, which was called Percy ‘Trucha’ Rojas for this edition and which was inaugurated on February 19. The entire event was carried out successfully, as reported by the institution on its official channels.

On this occasion the international referees Diego Haro and Joel Alarcón, who have great experience in South American and national team tournaments, were in charge of imparting justice. In addition, the Technical Unit for Minors, under the leadership of Manuel Barreto, and the Scouting Area of ​​the ‘U’ had the task of observing, in the three venues, the best players in the different categories. Twelve soccer players were selected to be evaluated and have the opportunity to defend the cream and cherry colors.

Stories in the Cream Cup

In the same way, it is worth mentioning that some stories stood out in the tournament organized by Universitario. The most important was the Trujillo headquarters of the club, which decided to include two girls in its team (the rules allowed the participation of women and people with special abilities in the 7-a-side soccer modality).

The same action was carried out by Sport Naranjitas de Tumbes, although it was only reinforced with a small soccer player. On the other hand, the ‘U’ decided to install the fan’s VAR, so that parents can respect the rules of conduct. In addition, the green card was established, which allowed the perpetrator of a foul to remain off the field for one minute (this warning was applied 10 times).

There were 269 matches played over a week (from February 19 to 25), between the three Club venues: ‘Lolo’ Fernández, Estadio Monumental ‘U’ and Villa Deportiva (VIDU).

A total of 1,256 goals were scored in the three modalities: soccer 7, 9 and 11.
