Manchester United lived a nightmare at Old Trafford after losing (1-0) to Atlético de Madrid and being eliminated from the UEFA Champions League. The Spanish cast got the only goal in the 41st minute thanks to Renan Lodi’s goal and then held the lead. However, the coach of the ‘Red Devils’, Ralf Rangnick, considered that the rival players bought time.

“I don’t think there was more than three minutes of continuous action. There was always someone on the lawn. I think there were also some curious arbitration decisions. I wouldn’t say they were decisive, but (the judge) bought the performances (Atletico de Madrid) to kill time. For me it was a joke that he added only four minutes of added time. He stated at a press conference.

Likewise, he considered that his team started with rhythm. “We started the game exactly the way we wanted to, with energy. From the first minute, we controlled the game. We could have scored an early goal, then we had a shot that hit the crossbar and there were two or three other good moments.”he mentioned.

Along the same lines, he considered that there had been a prior infraction against one of his players in the rival’s goal. “Then they scored a goal against us during a moment of transition shortly before halftime, which didn’t make things any easier for us. I still think there was a foul on Anthony Elanga shortly before that counterattack, but neither the referee nor the linesman saw it that way.”, he added.

On the other hand, Rangnick expressed that the team will have to focus on finishing in the top four of the Premier League. “Now it is too early to think about how to close the gap with the leading teams. I am focused on finishing at the highest level possible with this team and then there will be time to talk about other things.narrowed down
