Celta de Vigo issued an official statement after Santi Mina’s four-year prison sentence

Spanish soccer player Santi Mina was sentenced Wednesday to four years in prison after being found guilty of sexual abuse. The 26-year-old striker will have to go to jail if his appeal is unsuccessful. Given this, the team where he plays, Celta de Vigo, decided to issue a statement indicating the actions they will take.

The sky blue team has decided to open “a disciplinary file for the player Santiago Mina to elucidate his job responsibilities in view of this resolution”affirmed the celestial club this Wednesday in a statement.

“For this reason and as a precaution, it has been decided to temporarily remove the player from first team training”Celta added.

the celtic “It respects the player’s right to defence, but is obliged to take measures against those events that notoriously undermine the image of the club and directly attack its values”assured the Galician club.

The Celtic concludes “showing once again his most absolute rejection of the crime defined in the judicial resolution.”

Chacho Coudet is left, therefore, without one of his fundamental pieces in the attack this season; Santi Mina has participated in 33 of the 34 league games -30 of them as a starter-, he is the team’s second top scorer with 7 goals -after Iago Aspas (15)- and the fourth with the most assists (3).

It should be noted that the sentence was given regarding what happened on June 18, 2017 in Mojácar, Almería. At that time, Santi Mina played for Valencia. In 2019 he returned to Celta de Vigo, to his childhood club.
