Schalke 04, a history of Germany, secured its return to the Bundesliga after beating St. Pauli

Schalke 04, a historic German football club, sealed this Saturday its return to the elite of the Bundesliga for the next season after spending a course in second. The former team of Peruvian Jefferson Farfán ensured his presence in the Bundesliga for the next season after a tight win against St. Pauli.

The Gelsenkirchen team secured promotion by beating St Pauli 3-2. After 33 games out of 34, Schalke 04 has 62 points and can no longer be caught.

Three teams are tied for second place and are separated only by goal difference: Hamburg, Darmstadt and Werder Bremen (all on 57 points). Even St Pauli (54 points) retains small chances of promotion.

The top two in the second category of the Bundesliga are promoted to the first, while the third-placed team must play a ‘playoff’ against the 16th-placed team in the first. Schalke were German champions seven times -the last in 1958- and won the UEFA Cup -current Europa League- in 1997.
