In style: Claudio Pizarro celebrates Werder Bremen’s return to the Bundesliga | PHOTO

Claudio Pizarro has a special reason to celebrate. This Sunday, Werder Bremen defined the return to the Bundesliga. The ‘Green Lizards’, an institution that the former captain of the Peruvian national team defended, beat Jahn Regensburg 2-0 and ensured the return to the highest division of Germany, only a year later since relegation.

This victory, how could it be otherwise, was celebrated by the ‘Bombardier of the Andes’. In this way, the current Bayern Munich ambassador posted a message on his official Instagram account. ‘Pizza’ dedicated a post to the German institution and, incidentally, to the current members of the professional team.

“Congratulations, Werder Bremen. Back to the Bundesliga! Go”wrote the ex-selected Peruvian who came to the island team in 1999 and defended it for ten seasons, becoming the second highest scorer in the entity’s history with 153 goals.

In 2020, Pizarro decided to put an end to his football career after saving relegation with the Verdiblanco club through promotion. Despite not having many minutes that year, the striker was a key player in the locker room because of his experience.

One point was enough for the team led by Ole Werner to accompany Schalke 04 in direct promotion and they did not miss the opportunity. A goal at ten minutes by Niclas Fullkrug and another at 51 by Marvin Ducksch were enough to seal the victory at the Weserstadion and with it the return to the top flight of German football.

‘The Lizards’ are the fourth club with the most Bundesliga titles, with four, the last in 2004. They are only surpassed by Bayern Munich (31), Borussia Dortmund (five) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (five).

After beating Rostock 3-2, Hamburg managed to overcome Darmstadt and will be the one to finally play the promotion tie to the Bundesliga.
