“Thank you ‘Lucho’ for making us champions”: the message from the ‘Atleti’ fans to Suárez

After 2 seasons Luis Suarez will leave the Atletico Madrid, and today, he played his last game at the Wanda Metropolitano with the ‘Colchoneros’ shirt. The Uruguayan will not continue in the club, which is why, when leaving the field of play, he received a standing ovation from the public in the stadium.

At 68 minutes, the Uruguayan was replaced by the Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha, and as he left the field, a banner could be seen with the following message for the ‘charrúa’: “Thank you Lucho for making us champions.”

Lucho ‘Suárez signed for ‘Atleti’ in the 2020-2021 campaign, after a controversial departure from Barcelona. Precisely, in that course, the ‘charrúa’ was crowned champion of LaLiga Santander under the command of Diego Simeone. In that period, the South American scored 34 goals and provided six assists in 81 games.

Another footballer who will also leave the club is Herrera, who joined the Madrid squad a season earlier, from Porto de Portugal. The Aztec international also celebrated the league conquest achieved last year. In his time at the club, the Mexican was in a total of 78 games in which he distributed three assists and scored a conquest.

Atlético de Madrid’s season with the Uruguayan and the Mexican will only end next week at the home of Real Sociedad. Whatever happens at the end, Luis and Héctor will leave the institution with a guaranteed qualification for the next edition of the Champions League.
