Di María will say goodbye to the Argentine team after the World Cup: “It would be selfish of me to continue”

The Argentine national team is going through a great soccer present, after winning the 2021 Copa América, and coach Lionel Scaloni is now focusing his work on the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The sporting event will mean a great opportunity for the team to achieve glory, although at the same time it will be the farewell for some, like Ángel Di María.

The skillful attacker has been a key player in the ‘Albiceleste’, but he is ready to say goodbye. During the last games of the Qualifiers, “Fideo” was moved and took advantage of each game at home to show signs of his departure, to the regret of the fans.

And this Monday, Di María confirmed again that he will only be part of the Argentine team until December, when Qatar 2022 ends. After the World Cup, I think it’s time. There are many boys who are up to the national team, who are growing. I see them every time I go and they show that little by little they are at that great level”, explained the player in an interview for Olé.

They all show a good performance in their clubs and also when they go to the national team. I think that continuing would be a bit selfish of me, after so many years and having achieved what I wanted. There is a World Cup so close now and I want to be there, I want to be there… after that, the sure thing is that I will step aside”, he added.

Despite the decision taken, it is clear that Ángel Di María, at 34 years old, intends to close his cycle in the best way and still has options to win some trophies with the Argentina team.

When does Argentina play vs. Italy?

The game Argentina vs. Italy will be played this Wednesday June 1 at Wembley Stadium in London (1:45 pm Peruvian time). This meeting has been called the Finalissima, since the last champions of the Copa América (Conmebol) and the Eurocopa (UEFA) will face each other.
