Bayern Munich president on Robert Lewandowski: “I’m sure he will stay with us”

The president of Bayern Munich, Herbert Hainer, reiterated that the German club will not let go of Robert Lewandowski in this transfer market, despite the fact that the player -who has a contract until 2023- has said that he considers his adventure in the Bavarian team to be over.

We are in the fortunate situation of not having financial emergencies. We want the best players with us and Robert is one of the best. That is why I am sure that he will continue with us next season.”, Hainer told the newspaper “Bild”.

“Besides, a contract is a contract. Where would we end up if a player is allowed to terminate a contract unilaterally while the clubs have to pay until the last day?“, he asked himself.

Hainer’s statements are added to those of the president of the Board of Directors, Oliver Kahn, who insisted that Lewandowski must fulfill his contract with Bayern.

Hainer, on the other hand, criticized Lewandowski’s statements that his adventure at Bayern would be over, but added that he does not believe that they prevent it from becoming impossible to continue working with the player.

“I was surprised that Robert made those public statements. In his place he would not have done them ”, commented. However, Hainer added that he doesn’t think Lewandowski will lower his performance by having to stay at Bayern: “Robert is a professional, he wants to play football.”
