Erling Haaland and the reason why he decided to be a Manchester City player

The English club confirmed the signing of Erling Haaland for the next five seasons, which will keep him linked to City until June 2027; and after that, andhe Norwegian forward explained the reason why he chose the ‘Citizens’ after leaving Borussia Dortmund.

His father, Alf-Inge, played for and briefly captained City in the Premier League between 2000 and 2003. Erling was a fan of the club as a child, attending Maine Road — the team’s previous feud — with his mother. to watch his father play. He posted images of him wearing the blue City shirt as a child on social media.

Haaland acknowledged that his family connection was among the reasons for leaving for City despite interest from several European football heavyweights. “First of all, a little my father”, admitted. “I was born in England. I have been a City fan all my life. I know a lot about the team.”

“In the end, there were two reasons. I feel at home here and I think I can develop and show the best of my game with City. I like your (game) proposal”Erling clarified.

Haaland, who is considered one of the best young players alongside Kylian Mbappé, signed for five years. City have triggered a buyout clause in Haaland’s contract with Dortmund and it looks like they will get the superstar at a lower price.

“We’ve been following Erling for a number of years, so we’re excited to bring him here to Manchester City.” said sports director Txiki Begiristain. It should be noted that Haaland has scored 20 goals in 21 games with the Norwegian team and 85 goals in 89 games in two and a half seasons with Dortmund.
