Carlos Lampe, after seeing Redmayne: “The Australian goalkeeper is unpresentable”

The Australian team secured its presence in the Qatar 2022 World Cup after beating Peru on penalties. One of the architects of the achievement of the ‘Socceroos’ was the goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne, who entered very shortly after finishing the second extra time, precisely for the definition from twelve steps.

Redmayne’s balance was a save, the decisive one, the one that defined the tie. In addition to this intervention, the goalkeeper who plays for his country’s Sidney stole the show due to the peculiar movements on the goal line, such as some dance steps, including jumps, before the Peruvians shot.

That attitude generated many comments around the world. While some praised him for psychologically working on the ‘Blanquirroja’ players, there were also criticisms. Carlos Lampe, Bolivian goalkeeper, pointed out on TNT Sports: “The Australian goalkeeper is unpresentable”.

Peru could not with Australia

The Peruvian team was left out of Qatar 2022 after losing (5-4) in a penalty shootout against Australia, after a goalless draw until extra time, in the intercontinental playoff match between Conmebol and the Asian Confederation played in Al Rayyan.

On penalties, Australia was more effective in securing their sixth-place finish by scoring five of the six charges they made.

“The feelings in these moments of pain and frustration overwhelm us all. It is a big disappointment”said the coach of Peru, the Argentine Ricardo Gareca, after the game.

With the victory, the ‘Socceroos’ will join Group D, which includes France, defending champions; Denmark and Tunisia.
