Marina Granovskaia, “the most powerful woman in football”, will leave Chelsea due to a change of ownership

After more than a decade, Marina Granovskaia will no longer be the CEO of Chelsea from England due to change of ownership. Roman Abramovich he sold the club to Todd Boheley and he has been making changes to the organization chart of the ‘Blue’ institution.

According to The Telegraph, Granovskaia, “the most powerful woman in football”, will not continue in the London squad and will follow in the footsteps of Bruce Buck, the current president who will leave office at the end of this month.

Under his period, Chelsea had financial success and achieved important agreements and movements in the transfer markets such as the renewal of Didier Drogba in 2009, the return of José Mourinho in 2013, the agreement with Nike for 1,000 million euros in 2017, the sale of Eden Hazard in exchange for 115 million euros and the recent purchases of Havertz, Werner and Ziyech, among other things.

Marina Granovskaya she is a true financial strategist, a tough negotiator and very careful with money. For example, she demanded that Gonzalo Higuain’s arrival at Chelsea be in the form of a loan because she was not willing to pay 50 million pounds for a 31-year-old player.

The Russian-Canadian graduated from Moscow State University and started working for Abramovich in 1997 at Sibneft, an oil company. She subsequently moved to England, following the sale of Chelsea in 2003.

In 2010 she began to act as a representative of Abramovich and supported the decisions of the entity’s board of directors, which she joined in June 2013. The following year she became CEO or general director. In addition, in 2021 she was named ‘Best Club Director in European football’ at the Golden Boy Awards, which highlights her great work in the institution.
