Pierre Gasly will remain with AlphaTauri until the end of the 2023 season. The team confirmed this on Friday through a press release. “The 26-year-old Frenchman has been with us since 2017 and this continuity will be a great asset, as he enjoys a great working relationship with his group of engineers and everyone in the team,” it read.
Gasly had a contract with the Red Bull structure, of which AlphaTauri is the “sister” team, until the end of 2023. This extension is not a surprise since the Dutch world champion Max Verstappen, under contract until 2028, and the Mexican Sergio Pérez, who has just extended until the end of 2024, occupy the two seats at Red Bull.

“I have been with this team for five years now and I am proud of the journey we have made together and the progress we have made,” said the Rouennais. Gasly had been promoted in 2019 at Red Bull but the Austrian team, judging that he was not performing well enough, had not given him time and had demoted him to Toro Rosso (former name of AlphaTauri) in mid -season.
Since then, Gasly has won a prestigious victory at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix. He also has two other podiums (Brazil 2019 and Azerbaijan 2021), in 95 Grands Prix since 2017. According to his boss at AlphaTauri, Franz Tost, “He is definitely part of the group of the best drivers in F1”. His future blocked at Red Bull, Gasly hopes to find a seat after 2023 in another team capable of playing for the title.
