Roberto Villamarín, after leaving Universitario, will join the ranks of Mannucci

The transfer market in League 1 is open and Carlos A. Mannucci took the opportunity to incorporate a new player, with a view to the Clausura Tournament. The Trujillo squad announced on Monday the hiring of Roberto Villamarín, a right-back who played for Universitario de Deportes in the first months of the current season.

Through social networks, the ‘Carlistas’ confirmed that the 25-year-old defender agreed to his arrival for the remainder of 2022. Let us remember that the footballer terminated his contract with the ‘U’ a few days ago and, as a free agent, he did not had problems finding a new professional challenge.

However, this will not be Villamarín’s first time in Mannucci’s shirt. In the 2019 season, Roberto was also part of the club, although he did not manage to have a regular participation: he played eight games (seven as a starter) and scored two goals.

After that campaign, the winger was hired by Ayacucho FC, where he had two outstanding years. Between 2020 and 2021, the fast athlete accumulated 48 presentations in League 1 (six goals) and was key in achieving the Closing Tournament of the ‘Zorros’ (2020), in the definition against Sporting Cristal.

Due to these good records, Universitario opted for Villamarín’s services, but some personal situations that affected his performance prevented him from showing his best version. Now, under the direction of coach Mario Saralegui, the defender will seek to resurface in Carlos A. Mannucci.

How many games did Villamarín play at Universitario?

During the Apertura Tournament, Roberto Villamarín played seven games (four started) and had his last appearance on May 21, in a 1-1 draw against Sporting Cristal (he entered at 87′). And in the Copa Libertadores, the right-handed footballer was against Barcelona SC from the start (defeats 2-0 and 0-1).
