Top 10 Best INDYCAR drivers

INDYCAR racing is the largest American professional automobile racing category. The best of the best compete in this standoff, and although the world knows more about Formula 1 racing, American racers have their heart aimed at INDYCAR.

The difference between the two major racing competitions comes down to one thing. Formula 1 only races in circuits of all shapes and sizes. INDYCAR races on either road or a simple oval circuit.

Where F1 cars are built for maneuverability, INDYCARs are built for speed. This means the sports betting lines act differently for each type of racer too. So this season, who are the bookies eyeing up? It’s time to rev your engines as the top 10 are coming!

Marcus Ericsson – Chip Ganassi Racing

With 293 points to his name, Ericsson is currently sitting in the number one stop. He has had 6 top 5 wins this season, coming in second place in this category as Scott Dixson has accomplished this 7 times.

The same ratio can be said for the top 10 mark too, as Ericsson has reached an impressive 6 top 10 wins, while Dixson’s 7 still trumps him. If it wasn’t for his high points and singular win in the season so far, then Ericsson wouldn’t be in top place.

The fight for the podium is tight.

Will Power – Team Penske

Power is another racer with 6 top 5 finishes and 6 top 10 finishes. However, the difference between Ericsson and Power is in the points. Although Power has also won 1 race and has earned 1 more NTT P1 Award than Ericsson (for a total of 1), his points only add up to 266.

266 isn’t a number to shake your head at though. Power is just 27 points away from stealing the top spot away from our current winner.

Josef Newgarden – Team Penske

Just 5 points under his fellow Penske teammate, Newgarden has racked up 261 points in the season so far. Although he has won 3 races, he has only reached the top 5 and top 10 4 times.

It seems as though Newgarden is an all-or-nothing kind of player, making him the underdog of the season. Keep an eye out for Newgarden and note that if he is leading on the laps, then there is a high chance he might win.

Pato O’Ward – Arrow McLaren SP

Jumping down 13 points we find O’Ward in 4th place, so far this season. Like Newgarden, O’Ward has reached the top 5 and top 10, 4 times. But unlike his current rival, he has only one 1 race. With 248 points to his name, O’Ward needs to bag more wins to reach 3rd place.

Alex Palou – Chip Ganassi Racing

In 5th place, Palau hasn’t managed to scrape a win yet, however, he has finished 6 races in the top 10 positions, and these 6 races were also in the top 5 positions. This means his points are higher than others who have a win, reaching an impressive 246 – just 2 points below 1 race winner, O’Ward.

Scott Dixon – Chip Ganassi Racing

Dixon is leading the way as the racer with the most consistent high placements. He has been in the top 5, 7 times. However, from those 7, Dixon hasn’t secured a win. Dropping down 22 points from 5th place, Dixon has 224 points so far this season.

Alexander Rossi – Andretti Autosport

Rossi has won the INDYCAR races 7 times in his career, which is a wonderful coincidence as he is currently in 7th place in the 2022 season.

Earning 5 top 5 places, but no wins, Rossi has 218 points to his name so far, making him 75 points away from the top spot.

Felix Rosenqvist – Arrow McLaren SP

During his career, Rosenqvist has won just 1 race. He has finished the tournaments in the top 3, 3 times, and the top 5, 9 times. Making him an “always the bridesmaid, never the bride” kind of racer. This season seems to be going the same way, as he hasn’t achieved a win yet, but has reached the top 5 points 4 times. His current points are 203.

Scott McLaughlin – Team Penske

Falling down into the 100s now, McLaughlin has a point total of 199. However, he has won 1 race this season and has finished in the top 5 spots 4 times. Don’t dismiss this young racer yet, as he won Rookie of the Year in 2021, and these numbers are impressive for any racer, let alone a newbie.

Simon Pagenaud – Meyer Shank Racing

And lastly our 10th best racer this season is Pagenaud. Currently earning 197 points, the fashion icon has won these races 13 times in total, but this season he has fallen behind. With 4 top 5 finishes, Pagenaud needs to push further if he wants the chance to win for the 14th time.

Final Thoughts

Accurate on the 29th of June 2022, these top 10 racers are pulling ahead of the other competitors. We are already seeing underdogs powering forward, and favorites falling behind. This season is proving to be a nail-biter.
