WHO IS MARCELO GALLARDO?

Marcelo Gallardo is an Argentine ex-soccer player and coach who at AS Monaco was chosen as the best player in the French League in 2000. With the Argentine national team he played 46 games, scored 14 goals and was called up to the World Cups played in France 1998 and South Korea/ Japan 2002.

As technical director of River Plate, he won seven national titles: a First Division Championship, three Argentine Cups, two Argentine Super Cups and a Champions Trophy.

At the international level, Marcelo Gallardo won seven titles: two Copa Libertadores, one Copa Sudamericana, three Recopas Sudamericanas and one Suruga Bank. With a total of fourteen titles he became the most successful coach of the “Millonario” club, surpassing Ramón Díaz as the previous record holder with 9 conquests.

In addition to this, Marcelo Gallardo is the only River Plate coach to win the Copa Libertadores twice and also the only one to win the Copa Libertadores as a player and as a technical director.
