Manchester United refused to sign Luis Díaz and Haaland: the club’s board closed the doors to six stars

Since Alex Ferguson’s departure, a total of eight managers have passed through Manchester United, including interim managers. Facing a drought of titles (he hasn’t raised a trophy since the 2016-2017 campaign), the board appointed Ralf Rangnick as the right name to design a winning project, but plans changed on the fly.

The sporting director took over as coach following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. With the improvised DT, the team did not raise its head either and they only settled for qualifying for the Europa League. After a quiet course, Rangnick did not return to the position for which he was originally hired and left.

Months after these movements (including the incorporation of Erik Ten Hag), the Bild newspaper brought to light a list of requests that Rangnick made to the high command. The idea, according to the publication of the German media, was to add world-class players to renew the squad and compete hand in hand at the local and international level.

What signings did Rangnick request from Manchester United?

The German asked the leadership for the arrivals of Erling Haaland, Dusan Vlahovic, Josko Gvardiol, Luis Díaz, Christopher Nkunku and Álvaro Morata. All important names to start the revolution in the ‘Theater of Dreams’.

Despite expectations, United’s owners responded to the German that they were not going to invest in the aforementioned players. The curious and even negative thing is that two of that list became reinforcements of direct rivals in the Premier League.

Where do Rangnick’s orders play?

Luis Díaz left Porto to join the ranks of Liverpool, the classic rival of the ‘Red Devils’. As if that were not enough, Erling Haaland left Borussia Dortmund and signed a contract with Manchester City, another of the arch-rivals of the Mancunian cast in England.

Meanwhile, Vlahovic was in the sights of Arsenal, but Juventus won the game. While Álvaro Morata is part of the Atlético de Madrid squad. Finally, Nkunku and Gvardiol are still at RB Leipzig, but it is possible that they will change venues soon.
