Less than a month before the start of the Qatar 2022 World Cup: the great absences in the tournament

The countdown to the start of the Qatar 2022 World Cup has begun. From November 20 to December 18, 32 teams will fight to lift the long-awaited trophy and, in addition, the tournament will bring together great stars such as Lionel Messi, Neymar, Cristian Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, among others.

Although, the other side of the coin is carried out by the teams that have great world stars, but did not get a quota. Likewise, there are squads that did qualify, however, they will present large casualties. Next, know the great absences in the competition.

Italy

The Italian team, current champion of the European Championship, was left out after losing the playoff against North Macedonia. In this way, he will miss a World Cup event for the second time in a row since he was not present at Russia 2018 either.

Thus, players like Marco Verratti (PSG), Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG), Jorginho (Chelsea), Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus) or Ciro Immobile (Lazio) are largely absent from Qatar 2022.

Colombia

The Colombian team finished in sixth place in the Conmebol Qualifiers and broke a good streak of two consecutive qualifications. In this sense, Luis Díaz (Liverpool), Davinson Sánchez (Tottenham), James Rodríguez (Olympiacos), Juan Guillermo Cuadrado (Juventus), Duván Zapata (Atalanta), Miguel Borja (River Plate), among others, will miss the World Cup.

Chili

The Chilean team was in seventh place in the Conmebol Qualifiers and could not reach a quota for Qatar. In this way, he loses his second World Cup date in a row, since he did not qualify Russia either. Among those absent are Arturo Vidal (Flamengo), Alexis Sánchez (Olympique de Marseille) and Charles Aránguiz (Leverkusen).

Peru

The Peruvian team had qualified for Russia 2018, however, this time they could not get the ticket to Qatar after losing in the playoff against Australia in penalty shootouts. Luis Advíncula (Boca Juniors), Carlos Zambrano (Boca Juniors), Renato Tapia (Celta de Vigo), Marcos López (Feyernood), Gianluca Lapadula (Cagliari) will be absent from this World Cup event.

Carlos Zambrano and Luis Advíncula were champions of the Professional League with Boca Juniors.

Mohammed Salah

The Liverpool star, who has 11 goals and 5 assists in 18 games this season, will miss the World Cup because Egypt failed to qualify after losing on penalties to Senegal.

Erling Haland

Norway finished third in group G of the UEFA Qualifiers below the Netherlands and Turkey. In this way, Erling Haaland, who registers 22 goals in 16 games at Manchester City, will miss Qatar 2022.

N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba

France qualified for the Qatar World Cup and will seek to defend its title, however, it suffered the loss of two figures who were important in Russia 2018. N’Golo Kanté underwent surgery on his hamstrings (leg muscles) a few weeks ago and his recovery is four months, while Paul Pogba will also be absent, as he will still need rehabilitation after his knee operation in early September, his agent confirmed.

Diogo Jota

A few weeks ago, Jurgen Kloop, manager of Liverpool, confirmed that Diogo Jota will miss the World Cup with Portugal due to a severe calf injury suffered during the match against Manchester City.
