Caroline Garcia loses against Iga Swiatek, but can still aim for the semi-finals

A defeat, but hope remains. Powerless, but never unworthy, Caroline Garcia was beaten 6-3, 6-2 by the world No.1 Iga Swiatek, for her 2nd group match of the WTA Masters. But the French can still qualify for the semi-finals.

The 29-year-old player (N.6), who had reached this stage of the event in 2017 for her first participation, indeed keeps her chances after the 7-6 (8/6), 6-3 victory over Daria Kasatkina (N.8) at the expense of Coco Gauff (N.4). A success against the Russian on Saturday will allow her to finish second in her group behind Swiatek, already qualified in first position.

“So it’s quite simple”

“It will be a big challenge. A victory and it will be possible, a defeat and there will be no chance of getting there. So it’s quite simple. In the end, it’s still tennis, you have to do your best to try to win the match, ”commented Garcia, without yet knowing that this duel would oppose him to Kasatkina.

Garcia seems to have regained the desire and the legs, which had allowed him to spend a flamboyant summer, marked by three titles in Bad Homburg, Warsaw and at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati, before reaching the semi-finals at the US Open.

An encouraging state of form for the woman we thought she would land in Texas full of uncertainties, just after the surprise departure of her trainer Bertrand Perret, after 11 months of a fruitful collaboration which took her from 75th to 6th in the world.
