Benedetto’s gesture that cost him the expulsion and caused the end of Boca vs. Racing | VIDEO

The list of expelled in the duel between Boca Juniors and Racing Club was unusual. In total, ten players saw the red. The last of them was Darío Benedetto, causing the ‘Xeneize’ to be left with only six footballers on the pitch and, therefore, the match ended early.

After the festival of cards at the Estadio Único del Parque La Pedrera, referee Facundo Tello was informed of an action by ‘Pipa’ and did not hesitate to watch it on the VAR screen. The judge saw the forward’s controversial gesture with his hands and, as expected, he kicked him out.

By regulation, as Boca Juniors could not continue the game as six members, Tello blew his whistle, ending the match. In the end, Racing Club came back from behind (2-1) and was crowned champion of the Champions Trophy.

Zambrano and Advíncula, expelled

Within a procedure with several frictions, to which Facundo Tello’s poor arbitration contributed, Boca Juniors ended up with six players on the field of play due to the expulsions of Sebastián Villa (90’+4), Alan Varela (99′), Luis Advíncula (120’+4), Frank Fabra (120’+7) and Darío Benedetto (120’+10).

Tello also fired Peruvian Carlos Zambrano (120’+5), who was on the bench after being replaced, and substitute Diego González (120’+5), and coach Hugo Ibarra, all on Boca’s side.

For Racing, the Colombian Johan Carbonero (90’+4), Carlos Alcaraz (120’+3) received the red card for excessively celebrating his goal, and the substitute Jonathan Galván (120’+5), for participating in a tumult.
