Chilean painting festival. Juan Martín Lucero and Cristián Zavala scored the 5-0 Colo Colo vs. Betis.
Colo Colo thrashed Real Betis 5-0 on Wednesday, led by Chilean Manuel Pellegrini in a friendly match played in the southern city of Concepción.
The Spanish team suffered its second defeat in four days, losing 4-0 to River Plate on Sunday in the Argentine city of Mendoza.
Juan Martín Lucero put Cacique ahead in minute 9 and Agustín Bouzat increased in minute 12.
The situation for Pellegrini’s men worsened in the second half with goals from Gabriel Costa (minute 70), Lucero (78) and Cristián Zavala (85).
After his defeat against River Plate, in the friendly match that marked the end of the victorious era of coach Marcelo Gallardo, Pellegrini qualified that the objective of the South American tour was not to win, but to give minutes to new figures in the squad.
However, it has had to face severe criticism from the Spanish sports press.
Betis had established figures such as Sergio Canales, Nabil Fekir and Alex Moreno on the field, and other regulars in the starting eleven such as Edgar González, Víctor Ruiz and Willian José, but the resistance against the offensive impetus of the locals did not last long.
Colo Colo was able to take the lead before Lucero’s goal, but Gabriel Costa wasted a penalty in the 7th minute.
The Sevillian squad will face the caciques again this Saturday at the Sausalito stadium in Viña del Mar.
