Selection of Senegal confirmed that Sadio Mané officially misses the Qatar 2022 World Cup

Sadio Mané was declared absent for the World Cup in Qatar 2022 due to an injury to the right fibula, the Federation of the African country announced this Thursday. In this way, the Senegal team loses its star striker, who plays for Bayern Munich.

“Unfortunately, today’s MRI (Thursday) shows us that the evolution is not as favorable as we imagined and unfortunately we decided to declare Sadio out for the World Cup”, said the team doctor, Manuel Afonso, quoted on the Senegalese Twitter account.

The doctor specified that “a surgical intervention should be scheduled very soon” to operate on the player.

Since his injury on November 8 with his club, Bayern Munich, during the victory against Werder Bremen (6-1), in an action with defender Amos Pieper, no means have been spared to recover the No.10 from the Lions’.

Afonso went to Munich on November 10 and 11 to examine the player and consult the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) again.

This Thursday it was decided to proceed to new IRM.

After his injury, Sadio Mané and his entourage had initially given up all hope of being in the World Cup, before becoming somewhat more optimistic.

And, after the visit of the team doctor, it was decided to include him in the list of 26 players called up for the World Cup.

The coach Aliou Cissé must now find a replacement for him, he has until Sunday to do so, the eve of Senegal’s entry into the competition against the Netherlands.

But Senegal, who appears as a candidate to be the revelation selection of the tournament, has lost its leader, who led the ‘Lions’ to their first title of African champions last February.
