This Saturday, Georgia and the city of Gori host the Champions League. A contest that marks the return of Teddy Riner after an ankle injury this summer, as well as Clarissa Agbenenu. The Tokyo Olympic champion will join her Red Star de Champigny club just over five months after giving birth to her first child. Athena’s mother, who was born on June 15, will return to the competition on this occasion.

In January last year, the judoka missed the Grand Slam tournament in Paris to explain a few days later that she was pregnant. After giving birth to her daughter in June, the Rennes native resumed training at the end of August in Houlgate (Calvados). The recovery is tailored for her daughter, whom she is breastfeeding.

After several months of work, the champion officially returns to the competition with the highest club tournament. A new milestone that should lead France’s Tokyo Olympic flag bearer to her ultimate career goal: Paris 2024. At 30, the two-time Olympic champion (in the weight category up to 63 kg and in the team event) did not consider herself not yet ready to participate in the World Championships in Uzbekistan in October.

After the Champions League, Clarissa Agbenen should probably continue into the 2023 Grand Slam in Paris (February 4 and 5), unless it takes place in Tel Aviv two weeks later. It is still unknown in which category the leader of women’s judo will perform. In Georgia, he will be at -70 kg, since his -63 kg category is not present in the Champions League by teams. Then Agbégnénou has a desire to find his fetish category.
