Martino shortly after the match against Argentina: “I know where I was born, but I work for Mexico and I want to win”

Transcendental duel for the ‘Tri’ and the ‘Albicelestes. Gerardo Martino said Friday that he has no doubts that he wants Mexico to beat Argentina despite his ties to the South American country, as that could mean that Lionel Messi does not win the only major trophy remaining to his palmares

Argentina fell 2-1 against Saudi Arabia in their debut, so a defeat against the Mexican team would leave them out of the World Cup. For its part, Mexico comes from a goalless draw against Poland and their chances are intact.

When asked if he would have no problem defeating Argentina and leaving Messi with no chance of being world champion, “Tata” was categorical.

“Let me return the question, what would you do if you were me?”Martino asked a reporter at a press conference on Friday. “I know where I was born, I can say the place, the characteristics of my city, the sanatorium in which I was born, but I work for Mexico and I want to win the party”, replied the Argentine coach.

“When it comes to football, I put it in the context of football. I know that the future of the two teams probably depends on tomorrow, but we work for Mexico and we want the best.”added the DT of ‘Tri’.

When asked how to deal with Mexico’s biggest threat in Saturday’s clash, Martino was not without praise for the PSG footballer: “With Messi you have to be attentive because we know that in a few minutes you can solve the game”.

Martino is clear about the objective: “We prepare with the hope of going as far as possible in the World Cup. We must think that with a favorable result we can be close to the round of 16″.

“Tomorrow is a key game for both teams. We are going to look for the game to be played with our idea, but we also know about the rival and it may not go as we want. The future of the two teams depends on what happens tomorrow, when we saw the program we never imagined this scenario, but we work for Mexico and we want to win.” specified ‘Tata’ Martino.
