Sadio Mané was aiming to be the figurehead for Senegal at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, however, he was left out of the tournament due to injury. However, the Bayern Munich striker always encouraged his team and this time, after the elimination at the hands of England (0-3), his support was felt stronger.
Through a publication on his Instagram account, the footballer dedicated words of encouragement to his teammates who reached the round of 16 and competed against the European team. “Dear brothers, you laid down the weapons. People are very proud of their trip”he wrote in the first lines.
Then, he congratulated the players for raising the name of Senegal in the World Cup and mentioned that the team will take revenge. “They have lifted the hearts of Senegalese and all supporters by defending the national flag with dignity. The learning continues and good luck. We’ll go looking for other trophies.”he added.
Sadio Mané became the main star of the ‘Lions of Teranga’ who emerged champions of the 2021 African Cup of Nations. The attacker scored the decisive penalty and led his team to win that tournament in which he contributed with three scores.
On the other hand, it is important to mention that the Senegalese team qualified for Qatar 2022 by defeating Egypt in the African Qualifiers. In the World Cup, he shared group A with the host team, the Netherlands and Ecuador.
In their debut, the squad led by Aliou Cissé lost (0-2) against ‘Mechanical Orange’. Then, they recovered by beating the Asian team 3-1 and, on the last day, they defeated Ecuador (2-1) to seal their pass to the round of 16.
