“The sports management of the RFEF has transferred to the president a report in which it is determined that a new project should start for the Spanish Soccer Team, with the aim of continuing with the growth achieved in recent years thanks to the work carried out by Luis Enrique and his collaborators. the Federation pointed out in its statement.

The Federation highlights the work carried out by Luis Enrique in the two stages that he has completed as coach, interrupted by a serious family problem, and the renewal that he has carried out in the Spanish team, giving way to new generations that have already competed in grades tournaments such as Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

“The Asturian coach managed to give a new impetus to the national team since his arrival, in 2018, through a profound renewal that has consolidated a generational change in the team and in Spanish football”, acknowledged.

During his time at the helm of La Roja, Luis Enrique reached the Euro 2020 semifinals, where he lost to Italy in a penalty shootout, and the Nations League final, in which he lost to France 2-1.

The RFEF has not yet announced his possible replacement, but the Spanish press is considering the names of the current Under-21 coach, Luis de la Fuente, and the coach Marcelino García Toral, who has coached teams such as Valencia or Athletic Bilbao.
