Grant Wahl dies during Argentina vs. The Netherlands: the prominent journalist covered the Qatar 2022 World Cup

An unexpected situation that shook the sports field. Journalist Grant Wahl dies in Qatar at the age of 48. The American was a great reference in football and he died while covering the 2022 World Cup.

US media claimed that Wahl collapsed during his coverage of the quarterfinal match between Argentina and the Netherlands, however, the exact cause of his death is still unknown.

“The entire US soccer family is heartbroken to learn that we have lost Grant Wahl”The US Soccer Federation (USSF) said in a statement.

“Fans of football and top-notch journalism knew we could always count on Grant to deliver insightful and entertaining stories about our sport and its great players,” added.

After announcing the news, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), through a spokesman, lamented the death of the prominent communicator: “We are deeply saddened by the death of American journalist Grant Wahl. He was known for his huge fan of football and he was in Qatar to cover their eighth FIFA World Cup”.

“He fell ill in the press box at Lusail Stadium during the quarterfinal match between Argentina and the Netherlands. He immediately received emergency medical treatment on the spot, which he continued while being transferred by ambulance to Hamad General Hospital.”, added the Committee.

Wahl commented on his state of health days before

On his Twitter account, where he had more than 850,000 followers, this respected and influential football journalist published live messages throughout Friday about what was happening both in the match between Argentina and the Netherlands and in the previous one between Brazil and Croatia .

In his blog, Wahl explained last Monday that he had had some health problems in recent days and that he received treatment in Qatar for what appeared to be bronchitis: “My body has finally fallen apart. Three weeks of little sleep, high stress, and a lot of work can do this to you.”

The 48-year-old journalist recounted that, apparently “a cold” that he presented ended up getting worse after covering the round of 16 match between the Netherlands vs. USA.
