Boca Juniors Fan Day: Why is this special date celebrated?

Amid the hubbub for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Boca Juniors Fan Day will be held this Monday as every December 12 for 10 years. A very special day for ‘Xeneize’ fans who will remember the feats, conquests, goals and championships of the team they love.

On this occasion, La Bombonera will open its doors at 5 pm (Peruvian time) to accommodate approximately 35,000 fans who will enjoy a musical show. In the same way, they will enjoy the presence of the idols of the ‘Blue and Gold’.

Given the doubts and queries that some football fans have, below we will tell you the reason why Boca Juniors Fan Day is celebrated.

Why and since when is Boca Juniors Fan Day celebrated?

The origins date back to a Boca Juniors tour of Europe in 1925 and the ‘Xeneize’ set out with footballers, leaders and reinforcements from other clubs. The Argentine team won 15 of the 19 games, including victories against Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid.

Within that delegation was Victoriano Agustín “Toto” Caffarena, who was a notary public and held different positions in the team as a prop, technician or masseuse. Due to his faithful love for ‘Azu y Oro’, one of the financiers decided to call him “player number 12 ″.

Then, on December 12, 2012, the fans staged a demonstration in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires with the aim of paying tribute to that faithful fan. The date was chosen thanks to the fact that it tripled the number 12 (day, year and month).
