World Cup 2022 awards: who won the individual awards?

Argentina, on penalties, beat France in the final and stayed (for the third time in its history) with the World Cup. After the match, FIFA set the stage to reward the best players of the World Cup that was held in Qatar.

Most of the prizes were taken by the Argentine team for the title they achieved. Find out who the individual award winners were below.

  • Best young player: Enzo Fernandez
  • Best goalkeeper: Dibu Martinez
  • Golden Boot: kylian mbappe
  • Best player: Lionel Messi

Summary of Argentina vs. France

The goals for Argentina were the work of Lionel Messi (23 and 109 minutes) and Ángel Di María (36 minutes), while Kylian Mbappé scored for France (80, 81 and 118 minutes).

Preview of Argentina vs. France

At 35 years old and after giving another exhibition in the semifinals against Croatia (3-0), Messi warned that he felt “very happy” to be able to finish his World Cup tour by playing a final.

Mbappé will have, except for surprise, several more editions to play. But his ambition reminds him that a new title on Sunday would make him the first two-time world champion player before the age of 24 after King Pelé, his great reference.

There could be no better birthday present for the French phenomenon, who reaches that age two days after the final.

Without having to wait for the game for the title, Qatar-2022 will forever be the World Cup for Messi and Mbappé, the only ones to have scored five goals in the tournament, both at an exceptional level, throwing their teams behind them from the first minute.

“An anti-Messi plan? We are going to try to limit their influence as much as possible, as the Argentines are going to do to limit the influence of some of my players,” French coach Didier Deschamps said on Wednesday about the upcoming chess game.
