Joan Laporta on Messi’s possible return to Barcelona: “I would love to, but we cannot generate expectations”

from the exit of Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona in 2021, fans await his return to the club that hosted him for 16 years. However, this possibility has been deteriorating due to the economic difficulties that the ‘culés’ are going through. Joan Laporta, president of the Barça institution, gave more details about it.

“The economic situation was very difficult. There was a treasury in a very difficult situation. We had to request 600 million to restructure the debt. Now we have controlled debt and positive equity, which is very important. We are fixing the wage bill ”, he assured in an interview with Barca TV.

Although they will play the Europa League, a smaller competition than the one they were contemplating at the start of the season, Laporta does not give up and pointed out that with the work carried out in these months in the presidency he predicts a return to the path of triumphs and the glory.

We’ve worked hard to revive Barça and we’re still working on it. What is done is done. You have to look ahead. Barcelona fans continue to have great hope that times of splendor will come. It is what we seek. Magical moments in which we played well and won titles, ”he marked as the manager.

In addition, an impossible topic to put aside is the possible return of Lionel Messi, current world champion with Argentina. Faced with the question, the president had to put cold cloths on the matter and did not want to generate expectations on the subject. Well, LaLiga has prevented the famous levers for transfers from being used.

“It is obvious that I would like him to return one day. I would love to, but we cannot generate according to what expectations. He is a PSG player, who has a contract with them. He just won the World Cup. We are very happy for him. What I do not want is to generate expectations that have great difficulty. The levers were made to save the club because it was in a very difficult situation. Now LaLiga has established limits to the levers. One of these operations could be carried out, but it would not be to sign a player,” Laporta stated.

Laporta also took the opportunity to refer to the catastrophic elimination in the group stage of the Champions League. The culés shared a group
with Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Viktoria Plzen, where they finished third with 7 units.

“A very hard blow. But we have known how to bear it. The priority this year is LaLiga. The locker room, with our coach in charge, is clear about it. We want LaLiga and we have to mentalize ourselves and think about it. I don’t want to analyze the games in the fields of Bayern or Inter, in which they got on our nerves. The arbitration decisions did not favor us. We want and need LaLiga”
