Gérard Piqué buys the TV rights to the championship for Spain

Direct consequence of the arrival of Lionel Messi at PSG, Spain suddenly became passionate about the TV rights of Ligue 1. And it is the former partner of the Argentine at Barça, Gérard Piqué, which won the stake with his company, Kosmos Holding. The Catalan group has signed a contract for the next three seasons, ESPN announced on Wednesday.

According to the American media, Kosmos, which bought these rights in collaboration with Enjoy TV, plans to sub-license them to a television channel or to an OTT. In the meantime, PSG’s match in Reims on Sunday, which will most likely see Messi’s big debut in the Paris jersey, will be broadcast for free on the Twitch channel of Ibai Llanos, a famous Spanish streamer. “It will be a really historic day for us,” wrote the latter on his Twitter account.

No amount has filtered so far, but sure that it is significantly higher than the 2.5 million euros annually paid by Movistar, the former rights holder, in recent seasons. The match will also be broadcast in Spain by the Telecinco television channel, of the Mediaset group, which paid the rights just for this match.
