Suspicion of money laundering in tax evasion: Bernard Laporte released from custody

He came out free and without persecution. Placed in police custody on Tuesday morning, Bernard Laporte left the Financial Judicial Investigation Service (SEJF) at the end of the day. The President of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) was heard as part of a preliminary investigation launched in August 2020 by the National Fiscal Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) on suspicion of money laundering and aggravated tax fraud.

“This is a case in which he finds himself involved, as he was associated with rugby friends a long time ago. He was not accused of fraud or of receiving any amount, ”says one of his lawyers, Me Jean-Pierre Versini-Campinci. According to several judicial sources, the case is unrelated to the corruption case, which sentenced him in December to two years in prison and a €75,000 fine, a sentence he appealed.
