Celtic’s new South Korean signing Hyeon-Gyu Oh said he felt “like he was on a movie set” after securing a “dream” move to Parkhead.

The 21-year-old striker, who has one senior cap for his country, joins the Scottish champions for an undisclosed fee from K-League 1 side Suwon Samsung Bluewings, where he has played since 2019.

Bluewings were reluctant to part ways with Oh, but the striker made it clear he wanted to take the next step in his career at Glasgow and he has now signed a five-year contract with the Hoops, subject to international approval.

Oh, who made his debut for South Korea in a friendly against Iceland in November, said: “I’m happy to play for one of the top clubs and I’m happy that my dream has come true. I feel like I’m on a movie set is sitting and I’m very excited to be in town and look forward to the next few days.

“This is the moment I dreamed of and I’m really looking forward to performing in front of the fans in the stadium. I’m a very aggressive player and I like to score a lot of goals.

“I want to score a lot of goals and win the championship.”

Oh follows in the footsteps of Ki Sung-Yueng, who played for Celtic for two and a half years, and Cha Du-Ri, who played 31 times for the Hoops in two seasons.

Ho added: “Ki Sung-yueng and Cha du-ri are two of the players I respect the most. I’ve seen them play for Celtic and now I’m happy to have the Celtic logo on my chest and with the team can work towards their goals.”

Parkhead boss Ange Postecoglou has been impressed by OH’s “determination” to join Celtic after a lengthy process.

“We are delighted to bring OH to Celtic”

Postecoglou said. “He is a young, talented striker with great qualities and someone who is ready for the next phase of his career – a player who is hungry, who wants to develop and achieve success.

“I’ve been eyeing oh for a while and he’s the striker I really wanted because I think he’s a good fit for our team. He’s action packed, he gets his hands dirty, he works hard and he loves to score. What’s really important, I know he did everything he could to join us and his own perseverance was key to getting that deal done, so his determination to join Celtic was very clear.

“We are delighted to welcome him to the club and look forward to working with him and integrating him into our team. The other challenging aspect of Korean players is having to do military service, and one of the benefits of Oh is that he has already done it.

“He completed his national service as a young man, which frees him up to continue his career.”
