What is the position of the FPF on the possible cancellation of the Under 17 World Cup?

At the end of 2023, between November 10 and December 2, the Under 17 World Cup is scheduled to take place in Peru. However, El Comercio was able to confirm that said event will not take place on national soil. Along these lines, this newspaper contacted the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) to learn more about the case.

In the first place, the FPF makes it clear that so far there is no official communication from the central government where the cancellation of the Under 17 World Cup is made official, although it suggests a certain lack of support and constant work from the authorities to the sporting event.

It is worth mentioning that Peru should have hosted the Under 17 World Cup in 2021, but the championship was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, the date was changed and moved to the end of this year. This would be the second World Cup of the category on national soil after the one held in 2005.

On the other hand, Radio Ovación explained that the specific reasons for the cancellation of our headquarters have to do with the fact that the Government needs the financial resources that would be used to implement the World Cup infrastructure to rebuild the various provinces of the country affected by Cyclone Yaku.

The aforementioned natural phenomenon generated overflows, landslides and million-dollar damage to infrastructure in various cities. Even some localities are still visibly affected by the ravages of Yaku.
