Universitario returns to first place in the National Volleyball League after 12 years

Peruvian volleyball will once again have a great in its ranks. Universitario de Deportes achieved promotion to the National Volleyball League after winning the promotion home run of the Intermediate League after beating Molivoleybol in the decisive match.

The creams achieved the objective that they set themselves a few years ago and now they are celebrating at the Fortunatto Marotta Coliseum in La Punta. They beat Molivolleyball 3-0 (25-19, 28-26 and 25-21) to achieve promotion. The losing team will play Deportivo Alianza in the playoffs.

And the match was a great spectacle, due to the 800 fans who came to the La Punta Coliseum to cheer on their teams, most of them creams, and because of the game that was seen. Mention that in the second set, the ‘U’ fell by seven points and managed to come back to win that set.

With players like Coraima Gómez, Izabot Bravo, Jessica Tejada, Heidi Gronerth, among others, and led by César Arresse, the creams achieved the long-awaited promotion after having to start all the way from the district league.

It is worth remembering that Universitario played in the National Volleyball League in 2010, but a sanction for the aggression of one of its fans against Alianza fans cost them to be withdrawn from the tournament.

In recent years, Universitario decided to bet again on being in the highest category. Last year they managed to get promoted to the Intermediate League but that’s where they stayed. This time they redoubled the bet and achieved promotion.

The way

In the first phase they were in second place in Serie A that was played at the Olivar de Jesús María, surpassed by Molivolleyball and above Sport Performance and Real Mariscal Cáceres.

Thus, they qualified for the final home run for promotion, together with Molivolleyball, Porvenir Boys from Arequipa and Star Net from Trujillo. The matches were held in Lima as well.

The creams won their matches against Star Net (27-25, 25-13, 19-25, 25-19) and against Porvernir Boys (25-18, 25-11, 25-11) to define the leadership and promotion in the final day against Molivolleyball, with whom he added a loss and a victory in the first phase or Serie A.

This Sunday afternoon, they beat Molivoleibol 3-0 to achieve direct promotion to the National Volleyball League, where they will be present after twelve years. From next November we will see the creams in the national volleyball elite.
