Harry Maguire is “too busy” checking social media after Manchester United’s matches, despite the club telling him not to stay on Twitter.

The heavily criticized defender has lost his regular place with the Red Devils this season, with Erik ten Hag preferring Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

Maguire has been booed by United and England fans for the past 18 months and has had a torrid time.

Despite his apparent talent, the criticism has sapped Maguire’s confidence, and ESPN says he can focus too much on social media criticism after matches.

United bosses have advised Maguire to stay away from social media, but the defender is struggling whether he is playing well or not.

Maguire faces a decision about his future this summer, as Ten Hag is keen to sign a new defender.

The English defender is highly regarded at the club and Ten Hag assesses Maguire’s ball skills.

But he was moved from left to centre-back as Ten Hag prefers a left-footed position in that position, meaning Maguire must face Varane to secure a starting spot.

West Ham expressed interest in Maguire in January, but the defender opted to remain at Old Trafford.

If United land a hefty fee for Maguire this summer, they are likely to make money, especially as the club is on a tightrope of financial fair play.
