Sporting Cristal lost in its debut in the group stage of the Libertadores Cup 2023 against Fluminense, at the National Stadium in Lima. The light-blues began by winning the match with a goal from Joao Grimaldo, but then the ‘Flu’ came back, above all, through fixed tactic balls.
Brenner Marlos, a sky blue striker, acknowledged that they suffered a lot with set pieces.
“I think we had the opportunity to win, but we suffered a lot from those three set pieces. We had already discussed this because these types of details define the matches”, the Brazilian striker began by saying.
“Now we have to work so that this does not happen to us again. We started well, we even got ahead on the scoreboard, but we can’t make so many mistakes from set pieces”, he added.
“Maybe we could handle the 1-0 better, but now we have to correct ourselves thinking about the next games. Losing at home was not planned, so now we have to look for good results as visitors”, he stated.
Next game in Copa Libertadores
