The Brazilian André Jardine, coach of San Luis, affirmed this Sunday that the playoffs that are played in Mexican soccer are something beautiful that motivates the teams not to give up.
“We qualified until the last date and this is the beauty of the league with this playoff that allows us to face a final phase like a new tournament,” said the coach after his team eliminated León 3-1 in the Clausura playoff and advanced to the quarterfinals.
In the Mexican soccer league, the teams located between fifth and twelfth place classify the reclassification, this last step was occupied by San Luis at the end of the regular phase.
In the game played at León’s home, the local team opened the scoring with a goal from Víctor Dávila. San Luis tied immediately through Brazilian Léo Bonatini, Javier Güemez made it 1-2 and Brazilian Vitinho sealed it 1-3.
Jardine applauded his players who, despite conceding an early goal, had the strength to turn the score around and keep it.
“We planned the game well. We studied León, we knew we had to be solid at the back, we overcame the early deficit, we didn’t play as a small team. In the end we closed, we defended the goals; we played a match very close to perfection”, he underlined.
The strategist projected that his team will maintain its rising trail in the final phase of the contest.
“We have had a change of mentality. San Luis has been growing, gaining confidence. Today the triumph does justice for the game we played; We have gained in shape and confidence to face whatever comes”.
In the quarterfinals of the Clausura 2023, San Luis will face América, the second best in the regular phase, a team that André Jardine filled with praise.
“It is a great team, well managed. It is a team with the best offense in the league, but we are going to plan how to nullify the forces of its attack and play like today; It is going to be a great tie because we have already shown that we have players who make a difference”, he concluded.
