From joy to sadness: Hamburg fans celebrated the promotion to which Heidenheim changed history

Hamburg will remain in suspense. The city club did not get its direct ticket to the Bundesliga (Germany’s first division) after an unexpected setback. Heidenheim, who is also fighting for promotion, is to blame for the ‘Dinosaur’s’ woes.

The 1-0 victory against Sandhausen and the partial defeat at Heidenheim, owed Hamburg the long-awaited promotion. However, nothing would go as expected.

In a matter of 15 minutes and in discounts, Heidenheim managed to turn the score 3-2 to Regensburg. This result gave them direct access to the Bundesliga.

The incredulous fans had entered the Hardtwaldstadion grass to celebrate their return to the first division after being relegated in 2018. However, they did not expect the victory of their direct rival.

The main victim of this feat was Hamburg, who still has a chance to move up in the Play-offs, where they will face Stuttgart.
