Injured Kenyan marathoner Mary Keitany ends her career at 39

Kenya’s Mary Keitany, four-time winner of the New York marathon and three-time winner of the London marathon, ends her career at 39 after a hip injury that has deprived her of competition for the past two years, has- we learned on Wednesday.

“I looked for myself a lot, and we decided with my Italian manager Gianni Demadonna that it was better for me to stop,” said Keitany, who had only started cross-country races after the birth of his first. child in 2008.

“I sustained a hip injury after my last London Marathon in 2019 which took away from my ability to train and I haven’t been able to compete effectively since. I believe that I have found success in this career and that it is the best decision that I can make ”she continued. In ten years of career, Keitany also seized the records in 10 miles, 20 km, half-marathon and 25 km.
