Lyon supporters once again banned from derby in Saint-Etienne after a prefectural decree

Seeing the fall of a decree from the prefecture of the Loire or that of the Rhône, ten days before each derby between ASSE and OL, has become a sad habit for several seasons. On this account, the famous manita (0-5) inflicted by Lyonnais led by Nabil Fekir, on November 6, 2017, will remain historic in more than one way. That evening, Lyon supporters were present at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. This will unfortunately not be the case on October 3 (9 p.m.) during the first leg derby.

The prefecture of the Loire has just taken this Thursday yet another order in order to prohibit any movement of Lyon supporters in the Chaudron, and this from October 3 to 6. She specifies “that there is a strong rivalry between the groups of supporters from Saint-Etienne and Lyon”. Ah good ? According to her, “serious disturbances to public order are observed during matches between these two teams”.

The Stéphanois have never set foot in Parc OL

There is no shortage of precedents to support such a decision, starting with the violent clashes between supporters of the two camps, in the city center of Lyon, on the eve of the derby in February 2020 at the Parc OL. The prefecture also cites overflows during the matches of February 5 and November 5, 2017, both played in the Forez.

It must be said that to find any trace of the movement of Saint-Etienne supporters in Lyon, we have to go back to April 28, 2013, obviously in Gerland and not in Parc OL. The recent big hiccups observed in Ligue 1 in Nice, Lens, and to a lesser degree in Angers and Metz on Wednesday, will in no way push the prefectures to consider a next derby in the presence of Lyonnais and Stéphanois.
